The Sibley Oncology Research Program Nurse Manager will supervise all research nursing and research clinic staff within Sibley Oncology Clinical Research Program and oversee the administrative and scientific implementation of clinical research protocols in the program. The Research Nurse Manager will collaborate with faculty and Sr. Clinical Research Program Manager in protocol development, clinical trial activation, develop SOPs, training of all new Sibley Oncology research staff, and will serve as a central resource for faculty conducting clinical research. The RNM will be responsible for hiring, training, and mentoring research nurses and Sibley Oncology assigned clinical research staff in the program and assist Sr. Clinical Research Program Manager with general operations of the program. The RNM will have a dual reporting relationship to the Directors of the Sibley Oncology Clinical Research Program and the Oncology Research Nurse Manager of Clinical Research Administration.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, education, training and supervision of the research nursing and clinical research personnel within the SKCCC Sibley Oncology Clinical Research Program.
Actively manage research nursing and clinical research personnel within the Program:
Assess staff workload and determines RN and research staff assignments.
Facilitate effective teamwork between research nursing and research coordinators/assistants.
Facilitate effective teamwork between clinical research staff and clinical staff/clinical operations.
Conduct performance appraisals for research nurses and assigned research coordinators/assistants with input from research and clinical teams.
Direct regular staff meetings to discuss the current and upcoming clinical trials portfolio and active research issues and staffing needs.
Coordinate with Sr. Clinical Research Manager or assistant to assure all orientation procedures and training goals are met during an established time frame for research staff (CRO training and disease program specific training).
Responsible for development and implementation of policy and procedures for clinical research within the Program.
Meets regularly with Program leadership to discuss availability of resources and prioritization of protocols.
Assist administration with space allocation/work areas for research staff needs.
Provide clinic coverage for research RNs and research assistant as needed.
Carries at least one active trial to remain clinically competent and aware of new processes or problems.
Establish workflows to support research activities with each new trial.
Provide education to clinic team regarding trials.
Participate sponsored community events.
Assist other research team members to coordinate efforts in clinic and avoid duplication -- ie banking studies.
Facilitate collaboration between Hospital and University personnel including research coordinators, inpatient, outpatient and research nursing, house staff and faculty.
Work with phlebotomy, IDS pharmacy, processing labs, kit service, biopsy service and other research services to optimize the practical implementation of the Program and liaise with clinical research operations across campuses.
Assist PI with clinical protocol development, including reviewing and assessing new protocols for clarity, thoroughness, logistical feasibility, maintaining subject safety etc.
Practice nursing per study protocol(s) and under the nursing scope of practice of the District of Columbia.
Coordinate and implement assigned clinical trials within the Program, including responding to regulatory inquiries and resolving related issues.
Implement policies/procedures assuring compliance with local, Federal, and ICH guidelines for good clinical practice, as appropriate.
Assist with protocol approval process, including treatment plan, PK sheet, EKG and VS worksheet review and approval.
Ensure the proper scheduling and initiation of required research activities with sponsors of clinical trials as needed.
Ensure research staff maintain complete and accurate research data and charts in a real time basis and are well prepared for auditing and monitoring visits.
Ensure SKCCC Standard Operating Procedures are in practice.
Assist with budget generation and financial management of the program in collaboration with the Sr. Clinical Research Program Manager and Sr. Administrative Manager.
Work closely with Lead Research Nurses, Research Nurse Managers, as well as Clinical Research Program Managers in SKCCC to help create harmonized, effective, efficient research systems, and avoid duplication of effort.
Within 2 years, will complete Manager Development Program.

Equipment, Machine, or Tool Requirements: General computer skills, with experience with Microsoft Office.
At least 5 years of oncology research nurse experience. EPIC and Beacon experience preferred.
Minimum five years' experience in clinical research at an academic, government, or pharmaceutical industry environment.
Extensive experience with clinical research sciences and operations.
Related Master's degree may be considered in lieu of some experience to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula.
Licensure, Certification, Registration:
Licensed Registered Nurse in the District of Columbia
Current CPR certification required.
Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment
Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date
